Junior welterweight Paul Malignaggi (22-1, 5 KOs) easily outboxed Lovemore N'dou (45-9-1, 30 KOs) over twelve rounds to take N'dou's IBF world 140lb title on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, CT. Malignaggi dropped N'dou with a right hand in round nine and N'dou was deducted a point for a rabbit punch in round six. Malignaggi won 120-106 shutouts on two cards, 118-108 on the third card.
Super middleweight Andre Dirrell (12-0, 7 KOs) jabbed and ran his way to an unsatisfying ten round decision over the much shorter Curtis Stevens (17-2, 12 KOs). Dirrell, a 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, used his reach to pepper Stevens from long range, steadfastly refusing to engage in exchanges. Stevens, meanwhile, was unable to apply enough pressure to make Dirrell fight. Fans almost continuously booed Dirrell's 97-93, 97-93, 98-92 decision.Las Vegas, Nevada welterweight Marvin Cordova (15-0-1, 10 KOs) maintained his undefeated professional record with a six-round unanimous decision victory over Boca Raton, Florida's Edvan dos Santos Barros (9-4-1, 7 KOs) Judges at ringside scored the bout 59-55 (twice) and 58-56 for the Vegas native. In an action-packed, toe-to-to lightweight undercard bout, Rashiem Jefferson (14-0-1, 6 KOs) won a controversial eight-round decision victory over upset-minded Carlos Vinan (7-4-2, 1KO). Judges scoring the action tallied the bout at 77-75, 77-75, and 79-73, all in favor of the still undefeated Jefferson. The announcement of the decision brought about a chorus of boos from the crowd at Mohegan Sun.6'3 Cleveland welterweight prospect Willie "Quiet Storm" Nelson (4-0, 2 KOs) used his height and stiff jab to overcome the roughhouse tactics of Baton Rouge, Louisiana's Chris Gray (4-3, 1 KO) to capture a four round unanimous decision victory. Judges at ringside scored the bout 40-36, and 39-37.Undefeated featherweight prospect Dat "Dat Be Dat" Nguyen (10-0, 6 KOs) scored a sixth round technical knockout victory over Cleveland, Ohio's Yamin Mohammed (7-16-2, 3 KOs). With Nguyen already having earned two knockdowns in the first five rounds, a vicious three punch combination in the sixth forced referee Dick Flaherty to mercifully stop the bout. Time of the stoppage was 2:21.In the opening bout of evening at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut Cleveland, Ohio's Prenice Brewer (4-0, 3 KOs) maintained his unblemished record with a unanimous decision victory over Canadian journeyman Sebastien Hamel (6-10-1, 3 KOs).
