I got a 1 year old German Shepard puppy , and he licks his paws non-stop , To the point where he is starting to lick the hair off , I took him to the vet , and they gave me pills to give him , He still licks his paws , my question is has anyone ever had to give their dog pills , and how long does it usually take for the medication to work , is it like a human pill where it can take a few days of taking em` ?

Yeah definately ask the vet or a professional, I have no clue.
Speaking of dog problems though...My dog was doing something kinda weird a little while back that freaked me out. She was breathing really heavy, kinda like the sounds people have when they're having an asthma attack. I'm not sure if it was a breathing problem of hers, or maybe she was a) sneezing or b) crying cuz it sounded like a mixture of both. Anyone ever experience that in the presence of their dog?

She's 6 or 7 years old and nah her tongue was in her mouth, and didn't get back from running.
She just started spazzing, I think she was either crying or sneezing though, cuz she doesn't have any serious conditions.

el count, if it was a hot day and it just sounds like heavy panting thats just something they do to cool themselves off. they breath really hard like that cuz they dont have sweat glands.

well i took her for allergies once and that shit was like 150 for a steroid injection and some topical cream. other than that i took her in for a general check up which is like 60 and vaccinations. she's almost 5 and hasnt had to go to the vet too much. when she was 6 months old (she was my neighbors not mine at the time) she almost died of parvo and was taken to emergency but i dont know how much that cost. since i started taking care of her, technically i always did, but when i rescued her i make sure she eats well and always has clean water. try to play with her so she gets exercise in and just make sure her shots are all on point so i really dont have to take her to the vet. the two times i took her they said everything looks good

Aight cool thanks for the information.
I got her like 3 months ago or so, she was like 11 months old at the time. So she's like 14 months now (When I said 6 or 7 years earlier I meant dog years but yeah)...
Her previous owners took her to get all her shots when they first got her, and also neutered her so she can't get her period or get pregnant.
That's crazy that your dog almost died of parvo though. Like I feel like if I don't ever take her she might have certain things I don't even know about and it will be bad for her health.
As for exercisin I try to play with her when I got time, she loves chasing tennis balls and shit like that so I just keep a handball on me, it's dope cuz I don't even need to have her on a leash, if she runs to far away I'll just bounce the handball and she'll come right back.
Awww poor baby! You have every right to be concerned and I wish you the best. Sounds like she's taken to you already.
I have no clue as to why your pup does this, but it may be emotional like a kid who has a security blanket. Since the meds didn't work and if she's doing it to the point it takes off her fur, it could probably be just that. It could be that the meds may take a while to kick. I would suggest that every time you see the her licking her paws, stop it by distracting her. Teach her the word no for everything you don't want her to do including licking her paws. Reward her for good behavior, but don't go overboard with the rewarding or else she'll only do it for a treat. Because dogs have short memories it can take months of conditioning to stop. With care and a lot of patience, she will stop. You can even try repellent spray or something that tastes like crap for dogs.

Theres some stuff you can pick up at any pet shop called "Apple Bitter". This is nasty tasting shit to dogs. Usually used for dogs with mange, or an itchy condition where they try to constantly bite themselves and end up pulling out a lot of hair, Apple Bitter is like a training deterrent to dogs who cant stop chewing on themselves.
I only reccomend that if its just a habit- and not an actual condition. If her paws are itching and shit its not cool just to train her to deal with it- I had to get my puppy "dipped"... its like a medicated bath that kills the stuff on the skin making them itchy. I had to get her dipped like 4 or 5 times at like $50 a pop, but she felt a lot better afterwards.
