I'm writing my thesis for a business class on The Federal Reserve's role in creating Economic Booms and Busts. Anyway I stumbled upon this video when researching and watched it, it's a short watch (like 42 minutes) and relatively easy to understand for those who haven't studied the subject much.
It basically has a quick summary on the history of money as a medium of exchange, the history of the U.S. currency starting with the destruction of the continental dollar, the first two central banks up to the creation of the Federal Reserve. After that it describes how the Fed creates our economic hazards through the manipulation of interest rates, the money supply, and as a lender of last resort for fractional reserve banking, etc...
