Former 3 time world champion, Zab “Super” Judah was in the house at Fitzgerald's Casino & Hotel, in Tunica, MS this past Saturday night. Prizefight Promotions and Super Promotions announced that his tune up fight will take place April 14th at The Fitz against an opponent yet to be named. Judah then takes aim at Miguel Cotto at New York's Madison Square Garden on June 9th on HBO. Fightnews sat down with Zab and got his thoughts on the big Cotto announcement and his tune up fight coming up in April.
Zab talk about coming off of suspension, I know you're hungry to get back in there.
Well it's been almost a whole year, I am looking forward to getting in there and do what I do best, and that is to dominate.
You have a tune up fight scheduled for April 14th at Fitzgerald's Casino, in Tunica, talk about that.
Well it's going to be a great event. We will have to the fight outside though, tickets sold out in 3 hours. We will have to do it outside under a tent to fit everybody. I have been in training, and I am going hard, and I can't wait.
You have been calling out Miguel Cotto, and now that fight will happen, give me your thoughts on fighting him.
I think it's an excellent fight right now for myself, and I think it's an excellent fight for Miguel Cotto. A win for Cotto over Zab Judah is huge for his career, a win for Zab Judah over Miguel Cotto is huge for my career, it puts me right back up there. Cotto is a great fighter, he comes with a lot of strength and talent. I am looking at this fight as being a very big and entertaining fight.
The venue is Madison Square Garden, you're from Brooklyn. You have a very big fan base up there. New York is also home to many proud Puerto Ricans that will be for Cotto. Talk about the venue, and the electricity that will be in the air come fight night.
At the end of the day, I am not just from Brooklyn, I am New York City, I am worldwide. Even in Puerto Rico, I am loved there too. I have a lot of friends and fans in Puerto Rico, it should be a hell of a night. It's going to be crazy! It's going to be crazy!
What does Miguel Cotto bring into the ring with him that gets your attention the most?
He brings everything, he has good defense, he's a determined fighter. He lets his hands go, he's young, and he's hungry, and that says it all right there. I am not looking past April 14 though, that's first.
Closing thoughts for the Fightnews fans.
I am back! I am happy to be back, and I am going to show the world that I am still pound for pound the best fighter out there.
