I need some help figuring out which one to get. I am getting a Samsung 46inch LCD 1080p HDTV for Christmas and I can't decide if I want an HD DVD player or a Blu ray player. My main concern is buying the losing format. I don't want to buy another Betamax. Any thoughts?

you and i cannot predict the future so the smart thing to do would be to wait until one beats the other out and the prices go down.

a lot of analyists say hd hdv will win because its a lot cheaper and it has more backing and companies will make more money from and it and even the dvd9's (8.5gb) dvds arent being used so twice that size wont even be used therefore the extra space of blu-ray = pointless

if u got a 360 get the hd dvd add on...if u dont then just wait

a lot of dvd players including the 360 can output to 720p/1080i....maybe not 1080p im not sure tho

I'd go with HD-DVD

it can output resolutions of 1080p, it's cheaper, there are more HD-DVD's on the market and coming out, and has more studio support.

but on the other hand, when it comes down to computers, I'd get a blu-ray burner
